One final hike to the waterfall for me! We were a group of eight taking boda bodas to the Rwenzori Mountains. As usual, our guides, Alexander and Mumbere accompanied us. This has been my absolute favorite hike living here in Kasese. For other reasons, it's my way to connect with nature, get exercise, and enjoy the physical and mental challenges it presents. In these last 2.5 months, I think I've hiked this trail almost 10 times. Even though you follow the same path each time, you will always find something new every time you do a trail. Once we all got back, we ate lunch and did some work around the campsite. We varnished the wood around the restaurant, including the tables and chairs.
We enjoyed our evening around a lovely bonfire. It was so cozy and special. Sitting by a fire with friends is just a good time. We learned that it’s also an important part of the culture of "the mountain people" in Kasese. Examples:
they believe the fire scares the devil away
it brings people together
to keep warm
There was lots of storytelling, singing, and dancing, but best of all, we brought s’mores. This was the first time for our guides to taste them, so we introduced s'mores as "America's campfire snack." I'm not too sure what they thought about it, but I think they enjoyed it.

In the morning, we woke up early to watch the sunrise from outside our bandas.
