There are four projects in REEC; education, farming, tourism, and a sports program here in Kasese. I’ve chosen to focus on their tourism program for the three months that I'm here. We are working to improve the Mbunga Community Tourism Campsite up in the Rwenzori Mountains. Various projects include building tables and benches, painting, installing toilets, putting up signs, and just trying to make the campsite a more comfortable place. On the web, we are working to improve their WIX website, and I’m updating their page with new photos and making it easier to navigate.
So, if you’ve kept up with my posts, you probably have a good idea on who my friend Lotte is. If not, she’s a good friend who has chosen the same project as me. For future reference, we do almost everything together, so you’ll see her name and face a lot. Anyway, Lotte and I are making good progress with the tourism project. These past couple of weeks, I’ve helped update their WIX website, and we’ve also been able to afford building materials. So far, we’ve put in new carpet (some plastic material to cover the ground) in these African-styled huts that are used to accommodate tourists. We’ve recently torn down old seating and tables due to rot and decay. Last week, we finished making all the new benches, and we will continue with some painting and building new tables.
You are an inspiration to me Kristin! Volunteering your time to help out this community and also making the very most of your adventure there is impressive! You go girl!!! You have so much to offer the world <3
